NFC East squads on shortlist of teams that Bill Belichick would be interested in coaching
Bill Belichick is regarded as one of the greatest NFL head coaches of all time with six Super Bowl titles and three Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year awards.
After Belichick departed from the New England Patriots franchise after the 2023 season, the coach has reported interest in coaching the Dallas Cowboys according to an ESPN report.
The report detailed how Belichick went jobless during the most recent head coaching cycle, explaining that teams were wary to hire him due to his previous level of control over the Patriots organization in tandem with harsh critiques allegedly made by his former team owner Robert Kraft.
The Cowboys were prognosticated to be a possibility for Belichick but they retained Mike McCarthy instead of going after the 72-year-old.
However, Belichick was interested in the Cowboys, with them reportedly being on his shortlist of teams he would like to coach, including the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants.
One source cited in the piece said he thought Belichick would never coach again unless Cowboys owner Jerry Jones were to hire him.
Current Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is in the final year of his contract and under significant pressure considering the team’s performance in the last two postseasons, yet Jones has come out in support of McCarthy.
