Dallas Cowboys

Why does Stephen A. Smith say Dallas Cowboys can’t afford to get rid of Dak Prescott?

During his tenure as starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott has been selected to three Pro Bowls, an NFL All-Pro team, won AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and has made five trips to playoffs.

Despite his success, the Cowboys have yet to make an NFC title game with Prescott as a starter, and he sports a 2-5 record in the NFL playoffs. Following the Cowboys’ 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers some pundits questioned whether Dallas should keep Prescott.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky was on First Take when he said the Cowboys needed to enter a rebuild and didn’t have a team good enough to compete for a Super Bowl.

“The day after they got absolutely smoked at home in the playoff game [against] Green Bay.” said Orlovsky, “I would blow the whole thing up and start over again both at quarterback and at head coach in Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott.”

Stephen A. Smith disagreed saying the Cowboys should stick with Prescott.

“To get rid of Dak Prescott, let’s pump the breaks,” said Smith, “I’m saying to myself, OK if I get rid of him who am I going to get in return for him? Who’s the answer? You have to think like that D.O. because the point is somebody has to play quarterback.”

Smith also mentioned that Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb are up for contract extensions soon and that no quarterback available surpassed Prescott.

Prescott enters his ninth season in the NFL, amid contract negotiations, with immense pressure to lead the Cowboys back to the Super Bowl for the first time in almost 30 years.
