Dallas Cowboys to interview Jets DB coach Marquand Manuel, paves way to make DC hire
The Dallas Cowboys added another name to their search for a new defensive coordinator.
New York Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel will interview for the job on Thursday in what will be the fourth day of a wide swath of candidates to replace Dan Quinn, who became the head coach of the Washington Commanders.
The Cowboys interviewed defensive line coach Aden Durde and former Commanders coach Ron Rivera on Monday.
Former Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, who also spent time in the past as the Cowboys defensive coordinator, interviewed on Tuesday.
Wednesday featured an interview with former Jets and New England Patriots coach Rex Ryan.
The team is also reportedly interested in interviewing former New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
But Thursday is set for Manuel, who was the Falcons’ defensive coordinator under Quinn in 2017-18.
He also played for current Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy in 2006 in Green Bay.
So Manuel brings scheme familiarity and personal connection to the process.
Manuel allows the Cowboys to fulfill the NFL’s Rooney Rule, which requires them to interview two external minority candidates. Rivera was the other.
Will they make the hire among the already vetted candidates?
