Dallas Cowboys DC Dan Quinn on the head coaching list for Commanders, Panthers, Chargers

Dan Quinn could be in his last season as Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator.

He is again a hot name on the coaching circuit and may jump at an offer this time.

Sources confirmed that the Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers have put in formal requests with the Cowboys to speak to Quinn about their head coaching vacancies.

He fielded similar offers from Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos following the 2022 season but ultimately chose to remain with the Cowboys in hopes of helping Dallas get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995.

His success in turning Cowboys defense into one of the league’s best over the last three seasons has kept Quinn among the most sought after coaching names and has the former Atlanta Falcons head coach worthy of a second opportunity to run his own franchise.

Most importantly, Quinn took over a Cowboys defense that allowed the most points (473) in franchise history in 2020, giving up 29.6 points per game.

That number dropped to 21.2 points allowed in 2021 to 19.7 in 2022 to 18.5 in 2023.

The Cowboys field the league’s fifth best defense in yards allowed and points allowed in 2023.

Considering that Quinn has been through this process before there is no concern among the Cowboys that it will impact his preparation for Sunday’s wild card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers.

NFL rules prohibit in-person interviews of coaches on playoff teams until after the divisional round.
