Jerry Jones ecstatic about Eagles loss that put his Dallas Cowboys back in first place
The Dallas Cowboys have focused on themselves all season.
And after Sunday’s 31-10 loss at the Buffalo Bills, bouncing back and addressing their road woes heading into Sunday’s game at the Miami Dolphins are their top priorities.
But the Cowboys got an emotional lift and a gift Monday night when the Seattle Seahawks beat the Philadelphia Eagles 20-17.
It put the Cowboys (10-4) back in a first place tie with the Eagles (10-4) atop the NFC East and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones over the moon with joy.
“It was marvelous. I watched every bit of it,” Jones said of the Eagles loss on Monday night. “I thought I was about to doze then when they made those two exciting plays I couldn’t sleep until 4 in the morning because of the impact it can have in our year.”
Both teams have already clinched a berth in the playoffs.
If the season ended today, the Cowboys would win the NFC East and be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs behind the San Francisco 49ers (11-3) based on a superior record within the conference over the Eagles and Detroit Lions (10-4).
But much has yet to be determined.
If Cowboys and Eagles win their final three games, Philadelphia would win the division and Dallas would drop to the No. 5 seed because of the strength of victory tie breaker.
Of course, that won’t be officially determined until the end the season and those numbers could change.
The Cowboys have a tougher final three-game slate with Miami (10-4) on the road, Detroit (10-4) at home and the Washington Commanders (4-10) on the road to end the season.
The reeling Eagles, who are riding a three-game losing streak, have two games against the New York Giants (5-9) and one against the Arizona Cardinals (3-11).
With all four of their losses away from AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys need to get back to focusing on their own issues.
But the Eagles loss to the Seahawks has given the Cowboys renewed hopes of a division title if they can fix their road woes.
