Why Jerry Jones believes the Dak Prescott-led Dallas Cowboys can beat Eagles and 49ers
The Dallas Cowboys are playing as well as any team in the league and no team has been hotter over the last seven weeks.
The Cowboys (9-3) have won four in a row and six of their last seven games.
But eight games ago, they lost 42-10 to the San Francisco 49ers (9-3). Their only loss since was 28-23 to the Philadelphia Eagles (10-2).
So there remains a, ‘yeah but’ about the Cowboys from critics on their question reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995.
Can they overcome a 49ers team that walloped them in October after knocking them out of the playoffs in each of the last two seasons?
And can they beat an Eagles team still leads in the NFC East and were Super Bowl runner ups a year ago?
Owner Jerry Jones has an unequivocal answer on both. And it’s a resounding ‘yes’ based on the MVP-caliber play of quarterback Dak Prescott of late.
“Do I think we have a chance to beat either one of those teams when we play them? Absolutely I do. Absolutely we can. I think we have an outstanding chance here Sunday against Philadelphia. I think it won’t be the same game when we play any of these teams a second time. It never is,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday. “But do I expect an NFL war to over exaggerate, yes I do. Because both San Francisco and Philadelphia have got outstanding players. They’ve got great coaching. But, guys, we do, too.”
Again, Jones points to play of the Prescott that puts the Cowboys over the top.
Prescott is the highes- ranked quarterback in the NFL, Pro Football Focus. He leads the NFL in touchdown passes with 26. He is second in completion percentage and second in quarterback rating.
And nobody has been better over the last seven games. Prescott has a passer rating of 121.5 with 2,173 yards, 21 touchdowns and two interceptions during that span, putting him at the top of the MVP conversation.
“I’m not saying it’s clear. It may be clear to you, but it’s not clear to me,” Jones said when asked about the narrative that the 49ers, who beat the Eagles 42-19 last Sunday, are on another level. “I will say this, we sure have the opportunity. We’ve got the talent, the way Dak (Prescott) is playing, and we got the opportunity to win any game we play against either of those teams.”
The Cowboys, who have won 14 straight games at home, get a chance to prove Jones right against the Eagles Sunday at AT&T Stadium and move into a first place tie in the NFC East.
