KaVontae Turpin, DaRon Bland celebrate scores by jumping into Salvation Army kettle during Thanksgiving game
CeeDee Lamb caught an alley-oop from Dak Prescott and dunked the ball into a Salvation Army red kettle to celebrate a score in the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day 45-10 romp over the Washington Commanders on Thursday at AT&T Stadium.
Lamb and Prescott’s celebration came after a successful two-point conversion that gave the Cowboys a 31-10 lead against Washington.
Lamb revealed that the celebration was planned before the game.
“Honestly, we knew we wanted to do something with it, we just couldn’t decide what it was, so just went with a basic ally-oop,” said Lamb.
KaVontae Turpin jumped into the kettle after his 34-yard touchdown catch from Prescott and then he and his quarterback took bites out of a turkey leg they pulled out of the kettle.
“[Turpin] did the extreme, he hopped in and got the turkey leg in, you know what I’m saying. That was kind of fun,” said Lamb.
Turpin wasn’t the last Cowboys to jump in as DaRon Bland was thrown in by teammates after setting an NFL record with his fifth pick-six touchdown of the year.
Ezekiel Elliott jumped into the kettle in 2016 popularizing the touchdown celebration. Elliott and Dak Prescott also performed the celebration last season in a game against the Indianapolis Colts.
The red kettle behind the endzone is for the Red Kettle Campaign which is put on by the Salvation Army and helps provide rent assistance, food, Christmas gifts and shelter.
The campaign has been running for 133 years and this season will be the 27th the Cowboys also team up with the Salvation Army for the Red Kettle Kickoff halftime performance which will include country legend Dolly Parton this season.
