Dallas Cowboys hobbling into Jets game with new injuries to Brandin Cooks, Zack Martin
The Dallas Cowboys hope to unveil their full offense in Sunday’s opener against the New York Jets after offering a muted version in the 40-0 season-opening win vs. the New York Giants.
But they may be without one of their primary weapons as receiver Brandin Cooks has missed the past three days of practice with a sprained MCL in his knee and is questionable for the Jets game.
Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin was also added to injury report on Thursday. He was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday with a groin injury.
Martin and Cooks are both listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.
The Cowboys, who already likely be without left guard Tyler Smith for a second straight week with a groin, need a fully healthy Martin in a game against a Jets defensive line as good as any in the league.
Cooks suffered the injury against the Giants. He caught two passes for 22 yards in the game and drew a 37-yard pass interference penalty.
He has not been ruled out for the Jets game as the injury is not deemed serious.
But he will likely have to do something in practice on Saturday before being cleared to play.
And there is also the question of why even chance it in Week 2 of the season rather than erring on the side of caution.
If Cooks can’t go, look for receiver KaVontae Turpin, Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks to help fill his role.
It also should mean a bigger day for receiver Michael Gallup opposite No. 1 option CeeDee Lamb.
