As Zack Martin’s fine grows to $500K, Dallas Cowboys give another player a big contract
All-Pro guard Zack Martin remains away from the Cowboys in a contract holdout that has now incurred $500,000 in fines through Friday.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys have given a second contract extension to a player since they reported to training camp on July 25.
Free safety Malik Hooker and the Cowboys have come to terms on a three-year, $24-million deal that includes an $8 million signing bonus paid in the next next 15 days and $16.5 million in guaranteed money.
Hooker’s deal comes a little more than week after the Cowboys signed cornerback Trevon Diggs to a five-year, $97 million deal.
The Cowboys have now signed three members of their starting secondary to new deals since the end of the 2022 season. Safety Donovan Wilson got a three-year, $21 million deal in March.
Martin, who is under contract through 2024 and is set to make $13.5 million this season, is still back home in Dallas seeking more money.
Per a source, no one on the Cowboys has heard from Martin since the start of training camp.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said he has no intention of giving Martin a raise and has no problem waiting for the eight-time All-Pro guard to blink because of the punitive rules against holdouts.
Per NFL rules, Martin is being fined $50,000 per day for missing camp. He has missed 10 days so far so that number is up to $500,000.
It Martin misses all of training camp, he could be fined roughly $2 million.
The fines can’t be waived or rescinded.
