Timetable not precise on when Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs will practice again

Cornerback Trevon Diggs signed a five-year, $97 million contract extension on Tuesday, but he has yet to fully participate in training-camp practice with the Dallas Cowboys.

Diggs suffered a bruised toe early on the first day of practice on Wednesday and has been sidelined since.

Coach Mike McCarthy doesn’t expect Diggs to be out long and said he could return to practice possibly as soon as Monday or Tuesday.

“I would hope early next week. I know he wants to be out there,” McCarthy said. “It’s more the doctors just making sure it’s not more than it is.”

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn’t quite as precise.

Jones said the Cowboys would like Diggs to return as soon as possible but allowed that they will approach his situation with caution.

Jones said there is a chance Diggs might not return to the field before the Cowboys break training camp on Aug. 18.

“I don’t want to say, but maybe the latest when we get back to Dallas,” Jones said when asked about a timetable for Diggs’ return.
