Dallas Cowboys’ Donovan Wilson likely out of training camp and preseason with calf strain

Dallas Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson is expected to be out four-to-six weeks after suffering a calf strain on the first day of training camp.

It’s a huge setback for the Cowboys and Wilson, who signed a three-year, $21 million contract in March.

Wilson tallied a career-high 101 tackles and generated five sacks in 2022 and was a core member of big-nickle base defense that featured three safeties, including Wilson, Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse.

The good news is the injury is not considered serious and Wilson should be back for the season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 10.

Calf strains can be tricky and the Cowboys plan to be cautious with Wilson.

With backup Israel Mukuamu also sideline on Wednesday with a hamstring injury, second-year safety Markquese Bell replaced Wilson with the starters in practice.

Mukuamu is listed as day-to-day.
