Ezekiel Elliott texts RB Tony Pollard, offers encouragement as Dallas Cowboys begin camp
The Dallas Cowboys ushered in a new era on Wednesday when Tony Pollard opened training camp as the starter and featured back in place of the departed Ezekiel Elliott.
Elliott, the two-time NFL rushing champ and team’s third all-time leading rusher, was cut after the 2022 season due to his high salary and his declining production.
Elliott remains unemployed as the Cowboys and the rest of the NFL started training camp this week.
But he still has a heart for his former teammates and offered some encouragement to Pollard before practice on Wednesday morning.
“He texted me right before camp started, just telling all running backs to handle business, take care of everything and good luck,” Pollard said on Wednesday. It means a lot. you know, just even when his situation right now not being anywhere but still just checking on us and making sure we are all right.”
Pollard said he was surprised the Elliott is still an unsigned free agent but chalked up to the state of the running back position in the NFL.
“I know it’s frustrating for him, especially with the way things are going now,” Pollard said. “But I know he’s a tough guy, mentally and physically. So I’m pretty sure he’ll find a way to battle through it.”
