Jerry Jones on kicker replacement: All options are open
The Dallas Cowboys will have a new kicker when the 2023 season begins after parting ways with Brett Maher after a disastrous 2022 postseason.
Speaking with CEO Stephen Jones and Head Coach Mike McCarthy at Tuesday’s training camp press conference in Oxnard, Calif., team owner Jerry Jones had this say about the kicker position.
“All options are open, I think what we’ve got in camp has the potential to be the answer and so it’s not something we’re waiting on every day,” said Jerry Jones, “Let’s see what we’ve got, let’s see how they practice.”
Going into training camp, the Cowboys have Brandon Aubrey and Tristan Vizcaino as the only kickers on their roster.
Vizcaino has played for the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers and the Arizona Cardinals over his five-year NFL career.
Vizcaino has gone 11-for-12 on field goal attempts with a long of 47 yards while making 15-of-20 PATs.
Aubrey kicked last year for the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL and made 14 of 15 field goal chances and all 35 PATs.
There are still veteran kickers such as Mason Crosby, Ryan Succop and Robbie Gould available if the Cowboys become unhappy with both kickers.
