Dallas Cowboys are unlikely to pursue free agent Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins
The Dallas Cowboys have no plans to pursue free agent receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was released by the Arizona Cardinals last week.
Owner Jerry Jones and vice president Stephen Jones were on one accord Monday when asked if the Cowboys had an interest in adding Hopkins to the receiver corps.
Jerry Jones, who rarely rules out anything or anyone, said “it was unlikely.”
Stephen Jones simply said they like the guys they have at receiver and satisfied their need for a veteran when the acquired Brandin Cooks in a trade with the Houston Texans in March.
“He’s not on this team right now,” Stephen Jones said of Hopkins. “We went down the road with (Brandin) Cooks. We’re very comfortable with Cooks. We’re really pleased with our receiving group.”
That group includes Cooks, two-time Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Jalen Tolbert, Simi Fehoko and KaVontae Turpin.
Stephen Jones said the Cowboys have high hopes that Turpin can have an impact at receiver in addition to his role as a returner.
