Time will if the Dallas Cowboys select a player from TCU in the 2023 NFL Draft, which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.

But considering the amount of homework the Cowboys have done on many of the TCU players, fresh off a magical 2022 season that saw them reach the CFP National Championship game, it’s a great possibility that one or two Horned Frogs will get their names called by the hometown team during the seven-round draft.

The Cowboys have had visits and meetings with receiver Quentin Johnston, offensive lineman Steve Avila, cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, running back Kendre Miller, running back Emari Demercado, quarterback Max Duggan and linebacker Dee Winters.

Johnston is a potential first-round option at the Cowboys’ No. 26 pick.

“I mean, just really a credit to their success,” Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said of the number of TCU players the Cowboys have taken an interest in. “Just the winning that they have done, the individuals, the guys that have come in. They’ve done a great job.

I think it’s real credit to TCU and what they’ve accomplished and the type of players they have coming into the draft.”

For owner Jerry Jones, it’s an opportunity for the Cowboys tp capture and capitalize on some of the TCU magic from last season.

He compared it to when he was a part of a national championship team in college at Arkansas and how it uplifted the players who were a part of it.

“The TCU thing for me is different,” Jones said. “I got a chance to have a Cinderella thing happen when I was a senior in college. We went from a big disappointment, almost ashamed to go home after the season was over. And we were undefeated and won the national championship the next year. We changed.

“TCU, what happened to TCU and those guys, have got a chance to take players with that experience — and this is arm-waving but it’s got some meat on it — take that experience and become something that they never thought because they experienced it. Change that happens. So, those guys to me, have a keener interest this year.”
