Cowboys not looking to replace Brett Maher after his disastrous performance
Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher had one of the worst performances of his career against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Cowboys 31-14 victory in the Super Wild Card round.
Maher was 1-for-5 on extra points, setting an NFL record for most missed PATs in a game. Maher’s misses were clearly a source of frustration for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott who could be seen in the game slamming his helmet on the sideline after one of Maher’s misses.
Prescott expressed his support for Maher after the game, downplaying his reaction.
“I’m Money Maher’s biggest fan,” the quarterback said. “I’ve been shown the video of me, but that’s just emotion. That’s part of it.”
Following the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked after the game whether they would look at replacing Maher heading into their divisional round game.
Jones expressed his continued support for Maher saying, “No. No. We won’t. He’s done enough good ones.”
Head coach Mike McCarthy echoed Jones and Prescott’s support for Maher.
“He’s disappointed, but we need him. We need him to focus in. He’s been super clutch for us all year. So that’s the plan.”
For now, Brett Maher seems to be entrenched as the Cowboys kicker heading into Sunday’s second-round playoff game at San Francisco.
