Ezekiel Elliott is out as expected, heads a notable list of inactives for Dallas Cowboys
As first reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is sitting out Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears at AT&T Stadium.
Smith suffered a sprained knee in last Sunday’s 24-6 victory against the Detroit Lions.
With the bye coming up next week, the Cowboys want Elliott to rest the injury, giving him almost three weeks off before they resume play Oct. 13 at the Green Bay Packers.
Elliott was replaced in the starting lineup by Tony Pollard, who will be backed up rookie Malik Davis and Qadree Ollison, who was elevated from the practice squad.
Elliott headlined a notable list of inactive players for Sunday game against the Bears, including two starters in safety Malik Hooker (hamstring) and receiver Noah Brown (foot) as well as defensive end Sam Williams (knee), DT Trysten Hill (thigh), QB Will Grier and LB Jabril Cox.
Newly-acquired defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, who came over in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, and linebacker Damone Clark, who missed the first seven games on the nonfootball injury list after havin offseason neck surgery, were active for the first time.
