Did former coach Jimmy Johnson really say that about the Cowboys-Bears matchup?
Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson, now analyst for FOX NFL Sunday, doesn’t give the Chicago Bears offense much of a chance against the Dallas Cowboys defense.
On Sunday’s NFL pregame show, the former two-time Super Bowl champion said:
“Now, defensively, no question what they are going to do. They are the best in the league at rushing the passer,” Johnson said. “Chicago is the worst in the league protecting the passer. That will be a slaughter there.”
His reasoning is sound. The Cowboys’ defense is ranked among the league’s elite. The Bears’ passing game is among the worst.
Johnson had a different thought on the Cowboys’ offensive game play.
“I’m curious how they are going to approach this ballgame,” Johnson said. “Are they going to stay with the formula that they won with Cooper Rush. Run the football, win with your defense.”
“Or, are they going to say, ‘OK, (Dak) Prescott, let’s open it up.’ “
“I just get the feeling that they are going to open the offense up.”
Jimmy Johnson often offers commentary on his former team during the FOX pregame shows.
Earlier this season, he explained why Cooper Rush was so successful running the Cowboys offense.
And he also said the Cowboys have the right formula to lead to a deep postseason run.
