Knee injury keeps Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott out of practice; questionable for Bears
--
Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was held out of practice Wednesday with a sprained knee and his status for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears is questionable.
Coach Mike McCarthy said the running back will work exclusively with the rehab group in practice and they will take the situation day by day.
Elliott suffered the injury in the second quarter of last Sunday’s 24-6 victory against the Detroit Lions. He returned the game, finishing with 57 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns.
Elliott had 29 yards and both touchdowns in the second half after the injury.
Tony Pollard, who has shared running back duties with Elliott this season, would expect to get most of the carries on Sunday. He has 65 carries for 375 yards and two touchdowns this season.
He underwent magnetic resonance imaging exam on Monday and was diagnosed with a sprained knee.
Elliot played for much of 2021 with a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The injury occurred in Week 4 at Carolina.
And while Elliott appeared on the Cowboys’ injury report the rest of the season, he was still able to play all 18 games, including playoffs, and reached the 1,000-yard mark (1,002 with 10 touchdowns) for the fourth time in his first six seasons.
