What was that?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson introduced Super Bowl LVI live from the field at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, seconds before kickoff on Sunday.

The Rock’s intro was part hype video, part WWE-style monologue.

What made it slightly odd, besides it being the first time in memory that the Super Bowl had an on-site presenter, was how long it lasted. The Rock’s speech lasted two minutes and was presented with the Rams and Bengals players on the field waiting to kick off the game.

“It is my honor to say, finally, it’s time for the Super Bowl,” The Rock concluded to some cheers.

NBC announcer Al Michaels sarcastically underscored what many viewers, however, were thinking.

“I’ll say,” Michaels quipped, just as the kickoff finally happened.
