Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys found their groove and did it in record-setting fashion.

The Cowboys set a franchise record for points in a season in their regular-season finale Saturday night in Philadelphia and Prescott broke Tony Romo’s franchise for touchdown passes in a season a with career-best night.

The Cowboys’ 51 points, including 30 in the first half, eclipsed the 1983 record of 479 points.

“We got some momentum going,” Prescott said. “Everything we did, for the most part, was a success.”

The Cowboys’ 530 points came in 17 games. Of course, until 2021, the NFL season was 16 games. The Cowboys entered the final week leading the NFL with 29.75 points a game. The 1983 team averaged 29.9 points a game.

Scoring runs by Ito Smith and JaQuan Hardy in the fourth quarter helped Dallas pull away for a 51-26 win at Lincoln Financial Field.

Prescott threw four touchdown passes in the first half — including two to Cedrick Wilson — and a fifth early in the fourth quarter for 37 this season. He broke Romo’s Cowboys’ record of 36 in 2007. Prescott connected with running Corey Clement for an eight-yard scoring pass to set the record. Five touchdown passes in a game is a career-high for Prescott. His 151.8 quarterback rating for the game is the second-highest of his career. His only higher rating was 158.3 against the Giants in the 2019 season opener.

He had touchdown passes to Dalton Schultz for two and nine yards in the final two minutes of the first half to stretch the Dallas lead to 13 points. Prescott finished 21 of 27 for 295 yards and five touchdowns and sat for the final 14 minutes of the game.

“It’s special. A record like that, that’s this team, that’s this offense,” Prescott said.

The Cowboys (12-5) clinched the NFC East title two weeks ago and will host a wild card game next weekend at AT&T Stadium. The Eagles (9-8) clinched a wild card berth last week.

The 1983 team finished second in the NFC East and lost the wild card game.
