Jerry Jones believes Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott will be on the field vs. Denver

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to return to the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

Prescott was held out of Sunday’s 20-16 victory against the Minnesota Vikings for precautionary reasons due to a right calf strain.

But coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Prescott had a good day in rehab and the team plans for him to be a “full go” in practice on Thursday.

“We’ll be adjusted Wednesday coming off a Sunday night game,” McCarthy said. “So we won’t be in a full slate of our workload on the Wednesday practice. So I look for him to participate in that.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said there is no reason why Prescott shouldn’t play against the Broncos, a full three weeks after suffering the injury in the 35-29 overtime victory against the New England Patriots on Oct. 17.

“We have every reason to think that he’s on go, and he should be ready to go,” Jones said on his radio show on 105.3 The Fan. “This will give him quite the layoff, including the bye week that we had. So we have every reason to think he’ll be on the field for us this week.”

Prescott wanted to play against the Vikings but was overruled by the Cowboys.

Cooper Rush started against the Vikings, passing for 325 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 5-yard toss to Amari Cooper in the fourth quarter.

“Dak obviously wanted to play; there’s no doubt about that,” McCarthy said. “He was at a certain percentage and we made the right decision regardless of the result of the game. It was the right decision for him as player and it was the right decision for us as a football team.”

Prescott certainly expects to play against the Broncos (4-4). And the Cowboys (6-1) have every intention of allowing him to barring an unforeseen setback.

“We were optimistic about Dak last week, but we’re even more optimistic about him this week,” vice president Stephen Jones said.

The Cowboys will take a six-game winning streak into Sunday’s game.
