Jerry Jones has no idea when Dallas Cowboys RT La’el Collins will be able to play
Right tackle La’el Collins remains on injured reserve with a hip injury and the Dallas Cowboys have no idea when he will be able to play, team owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday.
As of now, the Cowboys are taking their time and trying to avoid surgery.
“Accept what I’m fixing to say. We don’t know,” Jones said on his radio show on 105.3 The Fan. “The doctors, the trainers, the owner does not know when it’s going to be at a point that he can do some other things that have him ready to go in a week or two.
“[It’s] still possible for him to play,” he said, adding, “The longer you go, the less optimistic you get.”
Collins participated in a handful of training camp practices before starting the season on injured reserve. He had hoped to return after three weeks, but the three weeks have come and gone.
The Cowboys have declined to elaborate on the exact nature of Collins’ injury but coach Mike McCarthy said “he’s obviously dealing with something that’s significant.” The Cowboys are hopeful that Tyron Smith will return at left tackle after missing the last two games with a neck injury.
And Terence Steele should be back ready to go for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns after leaving midway through last Sunday’s 38-31 loss to the Seattle Seahawks due to flu symptoms.
If Smith is back, then Steele and Brandon Knight will battle for the start at right tackle.
Zack Martin, who finished the Seahawks game at right tackle, will move back to his right guard spot.
The big question is whether Tyler Biadasz did enough in an impressive second-half showing at center against the Seahawks to supplant Joe Looney, who moved to guard when Martin moved to tackle.
