Dallas Cowboys legend ‘wrote eulogy’ before historic comeback shocks social media
It could end up being one of those Dallas Cowboys games fans remember for a long time.
The team’s stirring rally in the fourth quarter Sunday helped them overcome a 19-point, halftime deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons 40-39 with a 46-yard field goal as time expired at AT&T Stadium.
The dizzying yo-yo of emotions made for much fodder on social media.
Cowboys legend Michael Irvin joked that he was writing his eulogy “and I was on the last paragraph” when his team fell behind 20-0 after a disastrous first quarter in which the Cowboys fumbled four times (and lost three of them).
They also failed on two fake punts. All in all, it was a very ugly first half for Dallas. Things changed in the second half, as the Cowboys outscored the Falcons 30-10.
It’s the second-largest deficit the Cowboys have overcome to win a game. They rallied from 21 points behind three times, the last coming against the Rams in St. Louis in September 2014.
The shocking comeback, which required the Cowboys to score 16 points in the final five minutes and pull off an improbable onside kick, left fans’ emotions spinning.
