Why Jerry Jones was only one who drew much reaction after Dallas Cowboys’ first anthem

All but one player for the Dallas Cowboys stood for the national anthem before their season opener Sunday in Los Angeles.

The biggest reaction on social media, in fact, was to Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who was seen from a suite at SoFi Stadium standing with his hand across his chest. Cowboys’ lineman Dontari Jones took a knee during the anthem, but the rest of the Cowboys stood, along with Jones up in a box.

NBC cameras showed Jones appearing to smirk with a slightly curled hand on his chest, which caught the attention of many on social media. There were comparisons to Mr. Burns from “The Simpsons” and Emperor Palpatine from “Star Wars.”
