Dallas Cowboys DB Brandon Carr rise from practice squad complete, will play vs. Rams
It’s been quite a run for Brandon Carr who in recent weeks went from sitting at home as an unsigned cornerback to the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad last Sunday to being added to the active roster on Saturday to being made active for Sunday’s season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
Quarterback Ben DiNucci, cornerback Jourdan Lewis, guard Connor McGovern, tight end Sean McKeon and linebacker Luke Gifford were listed as inactive for the game.
It means that Carr, 34, has a chance to extend his incredible streak of playing in all 192 games in his career, the longest active streak by a defensive player in the NFL.
Carr, a former cornerback who played safety last season with the Baltimore Ravens, was signed by the Cowboys to offer veteran depth secondary.
Xavier Woods and Darian Thompson are expected to start at safety against the Rams.
Steele to start right tackle
In a surprising move rookie undrafted free agent Terrance Steele got the start at right tackle in place of the injured La’el Collins, who is on injured reserve.
Cam Erving, a veteran free agent who was signed to be the third tackle, was supposed to get the start in place of Collins. But the Cowboys switched to Steele.
Steele played in college at Texas Tech and has been impressive in training camp.
But he will be under the gun to protect quarterback Dak Prescott in the season opener.
Pre-game sights
There were no huge displays in support of social justice on the field before the game between the Cowboys and Rams Sunday night.
The Cowboys stood on the field along the end zone for the playing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the Black national anthem. The Rams were in the locker room save for two players, offensive lineman David Edwards and linebacker Micah Kiser.
All then left the field and returned to the locker room before coming back out for the national anthem.
But before the game, a majority of the Rams players wore black shirts emblazoned with, “It Takes All Of Us.”
A number of Cowboys coaches wore shirts with messages on them, including Cowboys receivers coach Adam Henry with “We All Bleed The Same Color” on the front and “It Takes All Of Us” on the back.
Cowboys captains
The Cowboys will not have season captains this season. They are doing it game by game, with the decision made the night before.
The inaugural captains for the 2020 season opener are quarterback Dak Prescott, linebacker Jaylon Smith and deep snapper L.P. Ladouceur.
