Former Dallas Cowboys first-round bust Taco Charlton released by Miami Dolphins
Former Dallas Cowboys first-round bust Taco Charlton has bombed out again.
Charlton was released by the Miami Dolphins on Thursday.
Charlton, a 2017 first-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys, was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins last season after the Cowboys released him following the first two games.
He recorded a career-high five sacks but was a healthy scratch three of the final four games of the season.
Per the Miami Herald, Charlton’s time with the Dolphins was marked by complaints about his attitude.
His attitude and lack of production also proved to be his undoing with the Cowboys.
Charlton had three sacks in a little more than two seasons with the Cowboys after being taken in the first round in 2017 largely because he was the best fit available for the 4-3 defense.
His laid-back attitude was immediately met with disapproval by defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.
Charlton got in Marinelli’s doghouse in 2018 when he was a healthy scratch for two games and never emerged. The Cowboys tried to trade him before the 2019 season but got no takers.
He was inactive for the first two games before being released and picked up by the Dolphins, where a fresh start turned into a repeat of the same cycle again, culminating with Thursday’s release.
