Dallas Cowboys suffer huge setback in losing DE Robert Quinn to the Chicago Bears
The Dallas Cowboys lost a big one Tuesday when defensive end Robert Quinn came to terms on a five-year, $70 million with the Chicago Bears.
Quinn led the Cowboys with 11.5 sacks last season, his first and only season with the team.
The Cowboys wanted to re-sign him but they couldn’t compete with the offer the Bears made that included $30 million in guaranteed money.
That is a lot for a pass rusher who will turn 30 next season.
But Quinn showed in 2019 that he has a lot left in the tank.
Now the Cowboys are void of a proven pass rusher opposite left end DeMarcus Lawrence.
Quinn becomes the second top Cowboys defender to bolt in free agency, joining cornerback Byron Jones who came to terms with the Miami Dolphins as the highest paid player ever at his position.
The Cowboys secured their two top offensive players for 2020 on Monday, applying the franchise tag to quarterback Dak Prescott and coming to terms on a five-year, $100 million deal with receiver Amari Cooper.
But they now have pressing needs on defense at end, cornerback, tackle and safety to focus on for the 2020 NFL Draft and the remainder of free agency.
