Dallas Cowboys

Just how big of a Dallas Cowboys fan is Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa? Let him explain.

In attempting to squelch a mini controversy regarding his preference to play for the Dallas Cowboys, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa ended up endearing himself even more to the fans of America’s team.

A week after saying his dream was to play for the Cowboys, Tagovailoa made it clear at the NFL scouting combine he would play for anyone.

“All I said is, ‘I’m a big Cowboys fan,’” Tagovailoa said in an attempt to explain himself. “I grew up a Cowboys fan my entire life. I understand that a lot of people have changed my words around, saying that’s the only team I want to go to. That’s not true. I’d be grateful to be drafted by any team.”

But as Tua kept talking it was clear his silver-and-blue roots run deep.

“I have two dogs that are named ‘Dallas’ and ‘Star,’” he said. “That’s just to tell you guys how big of a Cowboys fan I was growing up.”

The Cowboys were all he knew growing up. He couldn’t help it. It was beyond his control.

“My dad’s dad’s dad’s dad’s dad were Cowboys fans, and it just trickled down the line,” Tagovailoa said with a smile.

And fittingly at the age of 21, Tagovailoa has known nothing but disappointment during his lifetime as a fan of America’s Team. The Cowboys won their last Super Bowl title Jan. 28, 1996.

Tagovailoa was born March 2, 1998.

“I’ve always wanted to see the Cowboys make the playoffs, win the playoffs and go to the Super Bowl,” Tagovailoa said. It’s a situation all true millennial Cowboys fans understand all so well.

For the record, there is virtually no chance Tagovailoa will be selected by the Cowboys since it would cost the team too much to move up the board to get him. The team has the 17th pick, and he is projected to be a top-five draftee.

Besides, the Cowboys already have a franchise quarterback on the roster in Dak Prescott. And he is in midst of trying to negotiate a long-term contract extension that could make him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
