Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy to keep Leon Lett; Marc Colombo headed to Giants
The Dallas Cowboys are retaining Leon Lett as an assistant defensive line coach on Mike McCarthy’s new staff, according to sources.
Lett will work under defensive line coach Jim Tomsula just as he has the past few years under Rod Marinelli who has been part of Jason Garrett’s staff.
Lett is a former player who won three Super Bowl titles with the team in the 1990s. He has been on the Cowboys staff since 2011 and is the third and likely final former Garrett assistant retained by McCarthy. The others were offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and tight ends coach Doug Nussmeier, who is now coaching quarterbacks.
In addition to Lett, Tomsula, Moore and Nussmeier, the Cowboys coaching staff now features: defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, special-teams coach John Fassel, offensive-line coach Joe Philpin, running backs coach Skip Peete, receivers coach Adam Henry, tight ends coach Lunda Wells, linebackers coach Scott McCurley, secondary coach Maurice Linguist, assistant secondary coach Al Harris and assistant offensive line coach Jeff Blasko.
While Lett is staying, former Cowboys offensive line coach Marc Colombo is following Garrett to the New York Giants, according to published reports.
