Troy Aikman made us cry, Jerry Jones made us mad after Jimmy Johnson Hall of Fame news
First it made fans tear up.
Then it made many of them mad.
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson, who led them to two Super Bowl titles in the 1990s and was the chief architect of the Cowboys’ 90s dynasty that won three titles overall, is headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Johnson learned the news with everyone else watching the Fox halftime show for the Packers-Seahawks playoff game in Green Bay.
Johnson was emotional as he took in the news. His quarterback for those Cowboys, Troy Aikman, teared up while watching from the Fox booth in Green Bay. The whole touching scene even had long-time Cowboys haters reaching for the tissue.
But then the anger came. It was quickly pointed out on social media that Johnson is still not a member of the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor, an omission fans find ridiculous.
Jones, who released a congratulatory message to Johnson through the Cowboys’ public relations, has long held a contentious relationship with Johnson over who deserved credit (and how much) for building the 90s Cowboys teams.
“We’re so happy that the Hall of Fame has recognized Jimmy Johnson for what he is. A great coach,” Jones said in the release. “To Jimmy I say, ‘The stars were aligned and our dreams came true when we joined the Dallas Cowboys.’ And on behalf of the Cowboys, and our fans all over the world, I say congratulations Jimmy. We’re proud of you.”
