Six Dallas Cowboys now on Pro Bowl roster with addition of Amari Cooper, Jaylon Smith
The Dallas Cowboys have a new coach, and now six Pro Bowl players.
One day after the team introduced Mike McCarthy as head coach, the NFL announced Thursday that wide receiver Amari Cooper and linebacker Jaylon Smith have been added to the 2020 Pro Bowl roster.
They will be joining teammates Ezekiel Elliott, Travis Frederick, Tyron Smith and Zack Martin, who were picked during the initial selections.
Cooper will replace Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans, and Smith will replace Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly — both due to injury.
The Pro Bowl will take place Jan. 26 in Orlando, one week before Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
Cooper has now made the Pro Bowl in four of his first five NFL seasons, including the past two with the Cowboys. This season he led Dallas with 79 catches, 1,189 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
This is Smith’s first trip to the Pro Bowl. In 2019, he led the Cowboys with a career-high 142 tackles, along with nine pass breakups, two and a half sacks and two forced fumbles.
It’s a nice accomplishment four years after suffering a tragic knee injury during his final game at Notre Dame — an injury many thought was career-ending.
And there’s still a chance even more Cowboys could be added to the roster. Quarterback Dak Prescott could be added if either the Green Bay Packers or Seattle Seahawks advance to the Super Bowl. That would open up a spot at quarterback, since Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson would be exempt from the game.
Prescott is certainly a deserving replacement after a career-best season in 2019 with 4,902 passing yards and 30 touchdowns — ranking second and fourth in the NFL, respectively.
