Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys win big but their season — and an era? — is over

The Philadelphia Eagles have clinched the NFC East title and knocked the Dallas Cowboys from the playoffs.

The Eagles beat the New York Giants 34-17 at MetLife Stadium to finish with a 9-7 record and the division championship.

The Cowboys beat the Washington Redskins 47-16 at AT&T Stadium but the outcome didn’t matter. Dallas needed the Eagles to lose to have a shot at winning the division at 8-8.

The Cowboys will miss the playoffs for the second time in the past three years and third time in the past four. In head coach Jason Garrett’s nine full seasons as coach, the Cowboys have earned a playoff berth just three times. Garrett has finished 8-8 in four his nine full seasons.

The Eagles will host either the San Francisco 49ers or Seattle Seahawks in an NFC wild card game.
