Brett Favre says Dallas Cowboys abandoned running game, put too much pressure on Dak Prescott
Hall of Famer Brett Favre thinks Dak Prescott’s shoulder injury hindered his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“In pro football you cannot be second-guessing yourself during a game,” Favre said on his SiriusXM NFL Radio show. “I wonder if that’s what Dak is going through. If you are in that frame of mind during the game where you’re second-guessing and a little apprehensive bad things are going to happen.”
Prescott completed 25 of 44 passes for 265 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Dallas Cowboys’ 17-9 loss to the Eagles.
Favre said he struggled with his throwing accuracy at times when he was dealing with injuries, including a torn bicep when he was playing with the New York Jets.
“I would throw it where I normally would and at times it would go there but at other times it would go somewhere way off target and result in a bad play or an interception,” he said. “I feel like that’s where Dak is right now. He’s not able to control his accuracy like he normally would.
“I don’t know what Dak is feeling, only what I hear, just like anyone else,” he said. “but when you start thinking ‘I don’t know if I can make this throw,’ or ‘I don’t feel as confident,’ but yet you know you have to pull the trigger, bad things will happen then.”
Favre also felt the Cowboys were too quick to pull the plug on the running game. Ezekiel Elliott only had 13 rushes for 47 yards.
“I think they put too much pressure on him when they didn’t have to,” he said. “What running game they had I thought was pretty effective. But for whatever reason they abandoned that and it seemed like they abandoned it before they went into the game.”
