The 1993 Dallas Cowboys were a legendary bunchy, both on and off the field.

The list of Hall-of-Fame players includes quarterback Troy Aikman, wide receiver Michael Irvin and running back Emmitt Smith, among others. Then-coach Jimmy Johnson and owner Jerry Jones also have their busts enshrined in Canton.

The team finished the regular season with a 12-4 record and eventually won Super Bowl XXVII 30-13 over the Buffalo Bills.

But during the offseason and after much drama, Jones fired Johnson and replaced him with Barry Switzer.

In 1994, the team produced the exact same regular-season record, but fell in the NFC title game to the San Francisco 49ers. That team would go on to win Super Bowl XXIX.

And in a short excerpt penned by renown WFAA broadcaster Dale Hansen in The Athletic, the 1994 squad holds a special place in his memory.

Hansen has faced many challenges in covering ‘”America’s Team” for decades, but the 1994 squad was the hardest of them all.

You can read the full excerpt here, but the piece concludes with Hansen saying “I hated that year and it hasn’t gotten better since.”
