Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence has been putting on a ‘show’ in racking up sacks
DeMarcus Lawrence wants to make sure the league knows he’s the real deal.
The Dallas Cowboys’ franchised defensive end has done just that through the first quarter of 2018.
He had a career-high tying three sacks in Sunday’s 26-24 win over the Detroit Lions and leads the league with 5.5 sacks. He was tied for the team lead with eight tackles and his three sacks combined for a loss of 21 yards.
After allowing the Lions 232 first-half yards, the Dallas’ defense held Detroit to 150 yards in the second half. Two of Lawrence’s sacks came in the second half. In the third quarter, Lions were held to 45 total yards, including minus 1-yard rushing.
“I Just kept my head down and kept working on them. That was the main thing, just punching in today and getting the job done,” Lawrence said. “I’m basically trying to show the world that I am no one trick pony. Every time I step on the field I am here to put on a show. The fans were great tonight and the energy was good in the arena and I’m glad the outcome was the outcome.”
Cowboys’ coach Jason Garrett couldn’t heap on more praise for Lawrence.
“He really shows up in all area of the game, but the big, difference-making plays are the sacks,” he said. “He made them at critical moments. We put them behind the chains a lot because of his presence in the ballgame. His spirit is unbelievable. The relentless nature that he plays with is contagious throughout our team. He’s a damn good football player. We’re lucky to have him.”
