What Cole Beasley is saying now about QB Dak Prescott after Sunday’s comeback victory

Dallas Cowboys receiver Cole Beasley started a mini unintended controversy last week when stood up for the team’s maligned receivers by saying they were getting open, seemingly pinning the struggles of the passing game on quarterback Dak Prescott.

Beasley clarified himself of sorts after Sunday’s 26-24 victory against the Detroit Lions, saying he has always been one of Prescott biggest supporters and he was simply standing up for the guys in the receiver room.

“I have always been Dak’s biggest supporter every year and it’s never going to change and it hasn’t changed,” Beasley said. That is what people do. They take your words any way they want to twist it to cause controversy and try to divide us in this locker room. But it’s not going to work. We all got chips on our shoulder and sometimes it comes out with stuff I say

“I got love for every guy in this locker room. I am going to fight for all my teammates always. That is what I feel like I was doing. I was fighting for the wideouts. They are my teammates too. I was defending those guys.”

Beasley’s statement last Thursday wasn’t a shot a Prescott. He simply said, “We’re just getting open. That’s all we can do. If you watch the tape, that’s all you’ve got to do. A lot of people aren’t watching the tape. They’re just assuming. That’s fine.”

But it was taken as a shot at Prescott and fans came after him on social media.

If truth be told, Beasley is the last person to have problems with Prescott. His best season was in 2016 when Prescott took the helm from Tony Romo. Beasley had 75 catches for 833 yards and five touchdowns in 2016.

He came into the game leading the Cowboys with 12 catches for 121 yards added to his team-lead on Sunday with four catches for 53 yards.

Prescott completed 17 of 27 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns against the Lions. He also directed the game-winning field goal drive with clutch passes to receiver Allen Hurns and running back Ezekiel Elliott.
