Rookie second-round pick Randy Gregory back at practice after suffering heat exhaustion on first day

Cowboys rookie defensive end Randy Gregory returned to practice Saturday after suffering heat exhaustion on the first day of rookie minicamp and being forced to leave the field.

Ironically, Gregory, picked in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, talked about the heat and humidity during lunch between practices on Friday. The temperatures were cooler on Saturday and he said it’s just something he has to getting used to as well as learning to hydrate better.

“I’m trying to get used to it,” Gregory said. “I had a rough day yesterday. I knew I was going to cramp up eventually at some point. My body just gave out. But I think I followed it up pretty good with the morning practice today, and hopefully have the same thing in the afternoon practice.”

Gregory was not alone in getting used to the heat as well as getting accumstomed to playing football again after spending much of the last few months getting ready for the combine and Pro Day workouts.

Tackle Chaz Green, the team’s third round pick, and undrafted free agent receiver Lucky Whitehead also succumbed the heat on Friday. Both were back for Saturday’s practices.
