Punter Chris Jones among top playmakers in Cowboys’ win over Raiders
There were a lot of players involved in the twists and turns of the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-17 win over the Oakland Raiders.
Big play after big play kept the game in doubt until the final minute.
Cowboys safety Jeff Heath and Sean Lee: Heath made the game-saving play when his hit on Oakland’s scrambling Derek Carr forced Carr to fumble out of the end zone for a touchback with 31 seconds left to play. Heath also had six tackles and a pass defensed. Lee had 10 tackles, two tackles for loss and one quarterback hurry.
Cowboys punter Chris Jones: His 24-yard run on a fake punt in the third quarter led to a 5-yard touchdown run by Dak Prescott and allowed the Cowboys to regain some momentum. It was only his second career rush. He averaged 43 yards on two punts.
Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant: Bryant only had two catches for 59 yards, but his 40-yard reception led to the eventual game-winning field goal.
Raiders linebacker Kahlil Mack and cornerback Sean Smith: Mack had six tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries. Smith had two interceptions, three tackles and two passes defensed.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett: Garrett was in gambling mode from the start. His fourth-and-1 gamble paid off big in the fourth quarter and his aggressive play-calling didn’t allow the Cowboys to back down on either side of the ball.
