Cowboys better have a plan for Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack

Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack is a sack master.

That’s not just a throwaway moniker either.

Mack has a sack in five consecutive weeks, his longest stretch since tying an NFL record last season with a sack in eight consecutive games.

Dallas will need a plan for Mack, who has the ability to wreck the Cowboys’ playoff hopes and quarterback Dak Prescott in the same game.

Here are a look at some key matchups:

Cowboys right tackle La’el Collins vs. Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack

Mack is on pace for his third consecutive season with double-digit sacks. He’s among the top pass rushers in the game and should pose a stiff challenge for Collins. Collins has held up well in the past two games against star pass rushers Ryan Kerrigan of Washington and New York’s Jason Pierre-Paul. Collins has been playing through a back issue and Thursday made his first practice appearance in two weeks.

Cowboys safety Byron Jones vs. Raiders tight end Jared Cook

Cook rekindles painful memories for the Cowboys’ fan base. He made the 36-yard sideline catch for the Green Bay Packers to set up the game-winning kick in last year’s playoff game. Cook is having a solid season in his first year with the Raiders. He leads the team with 621 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including one last week against Kansas City. Containing Cook will likely fall to safety Byron Jones, who is regarded by the organization as an elite defender against versatile tight ends.
