CBS dispute with Dish could mean no Thanksgiving Day Cowboys’ game for some

This could be a dark Thanksgiving for Dish Network customers.

CBS made good on its promise to go dark on the satellite service because of a fee dispute. CBS has barred customer access to 28 local channels in 19 markets across 26 states, according to engadget.com. The blackout went into effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday.

If a deal isn’t worked out, Dish customers will miss the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday.

CBS says it has been trying for months to reach an agreement on retransmission fees for its content with Dish.

“Dish is infamous within the media industry for its long history of disputes with content providers,” CBS said in a statement.

Dish responded by accusing CBS of attempting to “tax” customers on programming that is losing viewers, and it’s “regrettable and unnecessary that CBS is bringing its greed into the homes of millions of families this Thanksgiving.”

If a deal can’t be worked out Dish viewers would miss out on key college football games on Friday and Saturday and an NFL doubleheader on Sunday.
