Philadelphia Eagles running back Jay Ajayi had quite a homecoming in his first professional game at AT&T Stadium.

Ajayi, the Frisco Liberty product, had a career-long 71 yard run in the third quarter. He went from the Eagles’ 14 to the Cowboys’ 15 in a matter of seconds.

Ajayi broke loose right up the middle before being tracked down for a touchdown-saving tackle by Cowboys safety Byron Jones.

It was the longest play from scrimmage the Cowboys’ defense has allowed all season. The previous was the 56-yard “Hill Mary” when Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill scored on a 56-yard play as the first half ended in the Cowboys’ 28-17 victory on Nov. 5.

It also more than doubled the longest run the Cowboys had given up this season – a 28-yard scamper by the Broncos’ C.J. Anderson in Week 2.

For Ajayi, it broke his previous long run of 62 yards last season as a member of the Miami Dolphins.

Even though Ajayi didn’t score on the big play, the Eagles punched it in three plays later when quarterback Carson Wentz found Torrey Smith for an 11-yard score.
