49ers’ Marquise Goodwin scores emotional touchdown hours after son is stillborn
Hours before helping earn his team its first victory of the season, San Francisco 49ers receiver Marquise Goodwin and his wife suffered heartbreak.
Goodwin’s wife, Morgan Goodwin-Snow, went into preterm labor at about 4 a.m. Sunday following complications with her pregnancy. Their son, Marquise Jr. was stillborn.
Goodwin, 26, scored his first touchdown for the team in a game against the New York Giants the same day.
He fell to his knees in the end zone after the 83-yard reception as team members gathered around him. The team won 31-21. Goodwin did not participate in the postgame conference and posted later that day on Instagram about the loss.
“The pain (physically, mentally, & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family,” he said in the post.
The couple, who met while attending the University of Texas at Austin, rushed to the hospital hours before the birth, Goodwin-Snow told People magazine.
“I felt joy in holding my baby even though it was a sad moment,” Morgan told the magazine. “I was so amazed. His eyes were still shut at this point, but the hands, the feet. He looked exactly like his daddy.”
