Chaz Green hopes to put injuries behind him, win left guard job
Chaz Green returned to practice Wednesday, working with the first-team offensive line at left guard.
Green has the inside track to that job, but injury concerns have derailed him to this point early on in his career. But he’s the best option if he can stay healthy.
“It’s a big week for me,” Green said. “They want me out there at left guard. I’m trying to go out there and take it one play at a time and just get better.”
Green missed his rookie season with a hip injury in 2015, and then was sidelined after four games, including two starts, last year because of foot and back injuries.
Green has battled multiple injuries leading into this season, too, ranging from a shoulder early in training camp to hydration issues that caused cramps to most recently an ankle injury.
But the Cowboys and Green hope those injuries become a thing of the past.
“Everybody knows the history,” Green said. “So this week is big. Hopefully it’s all behind me this year and I can just keep building off each week.”
If Green struggles staying on the field, the Cowboys would turn to veteran Jonathan Cooper at left guard. They also have reserve interior linemen in Joe Looney and Byron Bell on the 53-man roster.
