Michael Irvin sees some of the ‘Triplet’ era in today’s Cowboys

Count Hall of Famer Michael Irvin among those who have high expectations for this year’s Dallas Cowboys team.

Irvin, the franchise’s all-time leader in receiving yards, sees a lot of similarities between this year’s Cowboys team and the Super Bowl teams of the 1990s. Irvin teamed with quarterback Troy Aikman and running back Emmitt Smith to form the ‘Triplet’ era.

He envisions Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Dez Bryant doing something similar in the coming years.

“We’ve got a young team and I know we’re going to be good for a long time,” Irvin said before Thursday’s Hall of Fame game. “But the great part of it, it has the remnants of what we shared back in the 90s -- got the right positions that are strong and you’ve got youth at those positions.

“And the best thing is you’ve got a tight bond at those positions. Ultimately in this game that’s what it comes down to. It comes down to each man playing for one another.”

Irvin proudly showed off his Cowboys “Finish This Fight” t-shirt and expects that to be a not-so-subtle message when this season is all said and done.
