Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said he kicked tight end Rico Gathers, receiver Noah Brown and linebacker Kyle Wilber out of practice Sunday for fighting because they went too far with their competitive spirit.

So he sent them to the locker room for a timeout and a cooling down.

He did like how they responded after returning to the field, following a 10-15-minute respite. Both Gathers and Brown caught touchdown passes later in practice.

“As we talked the other day the energy and the spirit of practice is outstanding,” Garrett said. “It’s physical, it’s competitive and we had some skirmishes the other day and we talked about that as a team about how you handle those things, being disciplined enough to focus on your job, focus on what you need to do on the play and then move on to the next play. And you play from the snap through the whistle and you go to the net down and guys weren’t doing that. So obviously we had to remove them from the situations, get them to cool down. They came back out did a nice job at the end of practice.”

So what did they do after being sent away?

“Apparently they were in the locker room,” Garrett said. “They were off the field.”

Well, that explains it.
