The Dallas Cowboys had a moving pregame ceremony on the 15-year anniversary of Sept. 11, highlighted by an appearance by former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura.

Bush and his wife joined the Cowboys and Giants captains at midfield for the coin toss, and the Cowboys had a “First Responders Appreciation” during halftime.

“Well, I was really touched,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “It was special to have President Bush here and Laura under this circumstances of their role in 9/11.”

Bush served as President during the 2001 terrorist attack.

The Cowboys had a special video play before the game showing scenes of the aftermath of the attacks, as well as footage from when the team visited the 9/11 memorial last year.

Former Dallas Cowboys player George Teague led the team out onto the field carrying an American flag.

“[Teague]’s a great coach in the Dallas area and really great with kids,” Jones said. “For him to come out there take that flag the way he did when he did it as a player, it was just very, it was not only emotional but I thought it really for me said everything that I want to say and feel about our flag and about where we are in this country for an appreciation of being an American.”

All of the Cowboys and Giants players stood during the national anthem.
