Cowboys sign linebacker Lawrence, tackle Coleman
The Dallas Cowboys signed linebacker Cameron Lawrence and defensive tackle Davon Coleman on Friday.
Lawrence, who received a one-year contract extension worth $585,000, was an exclusive rights free agent, meaning the Cowboys had until March 10 to offer him an exclusive rights tender. If the club did not offer the tender, he would have become an unrestricted free agent. This move essentially allows the Cowboys to skip the process of the tender and extend his current contract.
Lawrence, an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State who joined the Cowboys prior to the 2013 season, is a special teams staple. He also registered 11 tackles and one sack last season, seeing his playing time pick up near the end of the regular season when the linebacker corps was hit with injuries.
Coleman, meanwhile, joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State last year. He played in the first two games, registering a total of four tackles, before being inactive the next eight weeks.
The Cowboys eventually cut Coleman in November, but re-signed him to the practice squad where he stayed the rest of the season.
