NFL game-by-game previews, Week 5

The Big Game

Seattle (2-2) at Cincinnati (4-0)

Noon, DirectTV/706

Line: Bengals by 3

Who knew Seattle’s 12th man wore stripes? Seahawks’ 10 straight Monday night wins include “official” gifts against the Packers and Lions. Seattle defense hasn’t allowed a TD since Kam Chancellor’s return. Cincy has outscored foes 66-18 in first half with no TDs allowed.

Best of the rest

St. Louis (2-2) at Green Bay (4-0)

Noon, KTVT/11

Line: Packers by 8 1/2

Rams go nowhere fast, and often. They lead NFL with 35 plays for zero or negative yards. Secondary had two blitz sacks and two fumble recoveries against Cardinals. Packers are 4-0 for first time since starting 11-0 in 2011. They’ve won 11 in a row at home by average of 14.3 points.

New Orleans (1-3) at Philadelphia (1-3)

Noon, DirectTV/708

Line: Eagles by 5

Saints had no turnovers vs. Dallas after six in first three games. Defense has no picks, three fumbles and seven sacks. Eagles’ losses are by total of 15 points. Their hurry-up offense has backfired, averaging 16 fewer plays than opponents and sitting dead last in time of possession (22:48).

Washington (2-2)

at Atlanta (4-0)

Noon, KDFW/4

Line: Falcons by 7

Redskins’ defensive front must help short-handed secondary against Atlanta’s fifth-ranked passing game. Falcons backup RB Devonta Freeman has 342 scrimmage yards and six TDs in last two games. Texas state champs (wins over Cowboys, Texans) try to complete NFC East sweep.

Worth a look

Denver (4-0) at Oakland (2-2)

3:25, DirectTV/715

Line: Broncos by 4 1/2

Only Broncos have allowed zero first-quarter points. DE DeMarcus Ware only player with a sack in first four games. QB Peyton Manning has a team 4-0 for NFL-record seventh time. Raiders RB Latavius Murray lost a fumble, dropped two passes - one intercepted, was benched vs. Bears.

Arizona (3-1) at Detroit (0-4)

3:05, DirectTV/713

Line: Cards by 2 1/2

Cards hadn’t trailed all season but were behind after 90 seconds vs. Rams. Two of season-high three turnovers converted to St. Louis TDs. Lions’ worst start since 2010 has them last in rushing (40.7), 30th in total offense (292.8), 29th in scoring (16.5).) Three in a row at home will help.

Buffalo (2-2) at Tennessee (1-2)

Noon, DirectTV/712

Line: Bills by 1 1/2

Patriotic Bills love the flag. They lost 135 yards and two TDs with 17 penalties vs. Giants. That’s 47 – with 14 personal fouls – for NFL-high 428 yards. Good news? Nine others were declined. Titans’ high scoring (29.7), high volume (375.7 yards) offense must protect rookie QB (12 sacks).

Viewer discretion advised

Jacksonville (1-3) at Tampa Bay (1-3)

Noon, DirectTV/711

Line: Bucs by 3

Jags had first-and-10 on Colts’ 32, 44, 40 and 40 in past four possessions yet didn’t score, missing FGs at end of regulation and OT in three-point loss. Their 62 points are second fewest. Equally challenged Bucs average 18 points, have 10 turnovers (two pick-sixes) and are 6 of 12 on FG tries.

Cleveland (1-3) at Baltimore (1-3)

Noon, DirectTV/709

Line: Ravens by 7

Browns’ defense, NFL’s highest paid, is last in yards allowed (406.3), 31st in rushing (141.5) and 20th in points (25.5). Ravens’ pass game missing WR Steve Smith (back) and top pick Breshad Perriman (knee). RB Justin Forsett has zero or minus yards on 21 of 66 rush attempts.

Chicago (1-3) at Kansas City (1-3)

Noon, DirectTV/707

Line: Chiefs by 8 1/2

Bears’ best weapon is K Robbie Gould, whose 12th career game-winner ended a franchise record 8-game losing streak. Chiefs’ losses all to unbeaten teams (Broncos, Packers, Bengals). Last week had 461 yards, 37 minutes of possession, punted once but no TDs, settling for seven FGs.

San Francisco (1-3) at NY Giants (2-2)

7:20 p.m., KXAS/5

Line: Giants by 7

Sad Francisco’s 48 points are six more than Falcons’ RB Devonta Freeman. QB Colin Kaepernick has a woeful line, one real WR and a RB with more yards in Week 1 than the next three combined. Giants look like cream of NFC East. Their two wins in a row could swell to seven straight.
