Who was Mr. Irrelevant? Former Lake Dallas High School player earns NFL Draft honor

The title of Mr. Irrelevant is handed out manually at the NFL Draft to the player selected with the draft’s final pick.

This year’s honoree was Dallas native and ex-Lake Dallas High School football star Kobee Minor, selected by the New England Patriots with the No. 257 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Minor, who played for three seasons at Texas Tech before transferring to Indiana and Memphis, is the first Texan to be Mr. Irrelevant since Grant Stroud in 2021.

As a part of the title, Minor and his family will be invited to go to Disneyland, spend a week in Newport Beach, California, at various events, be the guests of honor at the annual Lowman’s Banquet to celebrate and roast Mr. Irrelevant, as well as other media activities.

The event was started by NFL alumnus Paul Salata, who had a brief career with the San Francisco 49ers, to celebrate players like himself who might otherwise go unremarked upon and tend to have shorter careers.

He started the event in 1976 with the help of the first Mr. Irrelevant, wide receiver Kelvin Kirk from Dayton, picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
